About SEWAK
Founded in 1995, SEWAK (Self Employed Worker’s Association Kendra) is a Not-for-Profit Organization based in Odisha, India. Over the years, SEWAK has focused on key areas of intervention, including livelihoods, health, and natural resource management. Currently, the organization operates across eight districts of Odisha, reaching approximately 80,000 households. SEWAK has initiated various programs aimed at promoting sustainable development in agriculture and allied sectors. These include:
- Agriculture and Horticulture Promotion: Enhancing traditional agricultural practices and promoting horticulture to diversify income sources for farmers.
- Millets and Non-Paddy Agriculture: Encouraging the cultivation of millets and other non-paddy crops to improve food security and nutrition.
- Farmers Producer Organizations (FPOs): Facilitating the formation and strengthening of FPOs to empower farmers and enhance their market reach.
- Watershed Management: Implementing watershed projects to improve water conservation and management.
- Livestock Rearing: Promoting livestock rearing as an alternative source of livelihood.
- Micro Enterprises: Supporting the establishment and growth of micro enterprises to foster economic independence.
In the health sector, SEWAK’s initiatives focus on:
- Mother and Child Health: Programs aimed at improving maternal and child health outcomes.
- HIV/AIDS: Raising awareness and providing support for individuals affected by HIV/AIDS.
- Creche Facilities: Offering childcare facilities to support working parents.
Looking ahead, SEWAK plans to integrate it’s interventions with renewable energy, climate resilience, and technology to ensure a sustainable and wider impact. By incorporating renewable energy solutions, the organization aims to enhance sustainability in its projects. Additionally, SEWAK is implementing strategies to increase community resilience to climate change, while leveraging technology to improve and expand the effectiveness of its interventions.
